The Tustin Unified School District Board of Education met today (March 16) and passed an emergency resolution in response to the unprecedented COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. As a result, all Tustin Unified schools will be closed from Monday, March 23, through Friday, April 10.
“This decision was reached after considering the health and safety of our students and staff, guidance provided by the State of California, and in consultation with Orange County public health and education agencies,” TUSD Board President Francine Scinto said. “The Board recognizes the importance of schools in the lives of students and families, thus, this is not an easy decision, nor one taken lightly.”
The District will continue to provide education to all TUSD students and will serve student meals at locations and times to be determined and communicated later this week. These services will begin at the conclusion of the District’s spring break. Students and families will receive information directly from teachers and principals regarding the instructional program by Tuesday, March 24.
TUSD will offer online distance learning to students and those who need devices or internet connectivity at home should contact their school principal, who will coordinate their distribution through the District’s Information Technology Department.
“I want to thank the staff who is working tirelessly to help students to remain connected to the school community,” TUSD Superintendent Dr. Gregory Franklin said. “We know the staff on a school campus is an important part of a student’s life and will do our best to maintain that connection.”
“The coming weeks will be challenging, and all of us will need to be flexible as we adapt to the changing situation,” Franklin said. “The District is committed to doing everything possible to provide for the safety and education of our students.”
Tustin Unified will keep the community informed in this rapidly changing situation. The District encourages the public to check its website regularly at https://www.tustin.k12.ca.us.
