Tustin Memorial Academy (TMA), one of Tustin Unified School District’s K-5 magnet schools open to all elementary students within the TUSD boundaries, will continue its procedures for open enrollment for the 2019-20 school year. The school offers two separate education programs – a full-time, self-contained Gifted and Talented Education / Advanced Primary Learners (GATE/APL) Program for grades 1-5 and a Fundamental Education Program for grades K-5.
Since applications for enrollment to TMA are typically more than the space available, Tustin Unified uses a lottery system to enroll new students. The 2019-20 Student Transfer Procedures can be found on the TUSD Website at www.tustin.k12.ca.us. Click on the “Transfers” link for detailed information. Lottery applications can be completed from Jan. 14 to Feb. 1. The lottery process will be performed in early to mid-March and parents will be notified if their child will be offered an enrollment packet. All other children who are not enrolled will be placed on a waiting list.
Tustin Memorial Academy is holding tours for parents who are interested in enrolling their children at the school for next school year. Tours covering all grade levels will be held Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 9 and 11 a.m. Tour reservations can be made on TMA’s website at https://www.tustin.k12.ca.us/
Tustin Memorial Academy was recently selected as a 2018 California Distinguished School and a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School, and is entering its 23rd year as a magnet school for GATE/APL and fundamental education. The fundamental school concept places an emphasis on a balanced literacy reading program, hands-on math emphasizing critical thinking, conceptual understanding, and real life application through Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI). Lessons featuring Art Masters, Physical Education, coding, STEAM, organic garden, and cultural arts music and dance programs are also included. Both programs focus on schoolwide mindfulness and social emotional well-being.
In addition, the GATE/APL program offers a differentiated curriculum that promotes critical thinking and opportunities for study in greater depth and complexity, development of advanced skills through research and technology, growth in creativity and curiosity, and an appreciation for scholarliness.
Additionally, Tustin Memorial Academy encourages strong parental involvement with a collaborative relationship between staff and families.
The school is located at 12712 Browning Ave., North Tustin. For more information, call (714) 730-7546.
