TUSD Students Have “Astounding Minds”

Over 140 elementary and middle school students in the Tustin Unified School District will be participating in the 32nd annual “Astounding Inventions” competition on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Irvine Valley College, 5500 Irvine Center Drive. The 2019 competition is sponsored by Cox Communications and presented by Knobbe Martens and the Irvine Valley College Foundation.
The event will feature hand-made inventions by kindergarten through eighth-grade students in the Tustin and Irvine unified school districts. The competition and exhibition will be held in IVC’s Hart Gymnasium and feature a variety of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) activities, displays and demonstrations.
Public viewing of the student inventions will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the awards ceremony begins at noon in the Hart Gym. Students will also be able to participate in hands-on STEM activities from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Edwards Lifesciences Innovation Village Center. Admission and parking are free.
Two grand prize inventors from TUSD and IUSD will receive representation by Knobbe Martens with an opportunity to patent their inventions.
TUSD’s top winner will be recognized at a future school board meeting.
In past years, several TUSD student inventors have been selected to appear on network television shows.
