Parents and students at elementary schools throughout the Tustin Unified School District will step forward and participate in the International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
Walk to School Day encourages adults and children to walk to school together. The 21st annual event is designed to raise awareness about walking as a form of exercise, reduce traffic congestion and pollution, and focus on teaching children safe walking skills and routes.
Among the highlights:
Barbara Benson Elementary School is one of five schools in the county selected to participate in OCActive Walk to School Day with the Orange County Health Care Agency and Orange County Transit Authority. Benson students, parents and staff will meet at 7:25 a.m. at a location near the school.
Tustin Ranch Elementary School and Tustin Police Department are partnering in the Safe Kids Walk to School safety program. TUSD Board of Education member Jonathan Abelove, police officers, teachers, staff and parents will walk to school with Tustin Ranch students. They will meet at 7:30 a.m. at various locations near the school.
International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. Thousands of schools across America – from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico – participate every October.
