Monique Yessian has been named Coordinator of Student Services for the Tustin Unified School District. She will take over for Sean Diaz, who is leaving the District to work closer to home as a school administrator in the San Gabriel Valley. She will begin on July 1.
“Monique is a dedicated educational leader who has a strong foundation working with staff and supporting students and families,” Superintendent Dr. Gregory Franklin said.
Yessian has 17 years of experience in public education – primarily with the Saddleback Valley Unified School District. Most recently, she has served as Director of Student Services and, among her responsibilities, oversaw Mental Health Services, handled student discipline, collaborated with school resource officers and served as crisis response coordinator. Prior to that, Yessian was Coordinator of Pupil Services for Saddleback Valley USD, an assistant principal at El Toro High School and a guidance counselor/specialist at Laguna Hills High School. She also worked as a project assistant with the Orange CountyFriday Night Live Partnership substance abuse prevention program at the Orange County Department of Education.
Yessian has a bachelor’s degree in child development and family studies, and a master’s degree in school counseling – both from California State University, Long Beach.
Among her honors, Yessian was nominated as Saddleback Valley’s 2018 Administrator of the Year in Student Services for the Association of California School Administrators, Region 17 (Orange County), and received an OCDE Crisis Response Coordination Award.
“I’m very familiar with TUSD’s excellent reputation and I look forward to serving the Tustin Unified school community where student success is a high priority,” Yessian said.
