Llama tell you – this is a clever idea! TUSD Office of Language Acquisition “ELPACAs” Eli (left) and Ellie are ready for English Language Proficiency Assessment California (ELPAC) testing and some good-spirited school site competition. English Language Development teacher on special assignment Alison Bruner created “ELPACAs” (a play on “alpaca” – similar to a llama) ELi and Ellie as a fun competition between schools during the ELPAC testing window. This is the annual language assessment given to all English learner students. Schools earn the privilege to spend a week with Eli (secondary schools) or Ellie (elementary schools) by completing various tasks during the District’s testing period. The weekly winners are also recognized for their outstanding work with a photo and shout-out on Twitter. Alison said “we want to honor and celebrate all the hard work that these teams are putting into test coordination and student support, as well as create moments of joy and a culture of fun.” An overall winner for elementary and secondary schools will be announced in mid-February. Will the “ELPACAs” contest be a success? No prob-llama!
