We’ll get right to the point and not let this story drag on. Preschool students at W.R. Nelson Elementary School participated in the traditional Dragon Dance as they learned about the Chinese New Year, which is Saturday, January 25. What better way to learn about the Chinese New Year than to crawl inside the giant head of a dragon and parade around the classroom? In addition, students sampled traditional Chinese foods and made Chinese lanterns in teacher Jessica Torres’ Kindergarten Readiness class. Above, preschooler Jace Espinoza heads the costume, while preschooler Kaiden Eklof watches the Dragon Dance. Learning about culture and diversity is an integral part of the Tustin Unified School District Kindergarten Readiness curriculum. Preschool students are exploring cultural differences in language, clothing, food and dance. For our preschoolers, these memories are worth a fortune, cookie!
