Elementary Music Program
All third, fourth and fifth grade students in TUSD experience an engaging weekly music program developed in accordance with the Performing Arts Framework that emphasizes collaboration, creative expression, movement and performance. Credentialed music teachers engage students in lessons developing keyboarding skills, music technology, strings, winds, and vocal courses that culminate in student showcase performances each trimester. Lessons emphasize kinesthetic, visual and vocal interaction and include a composer of the week.
All third, fourth and fifth-grade students are engaged in weekly music lessons where they receive instruction in singing, listening, dancing, music technology, recorders for fourth graders and violin for fifth graders.
Many elementary students are treated to bi-monthly music assemblies from traveling music teacher John-Patrick Yeiser. Mr. Yeiser impacts each student’s knowledge and interest in music through entertaining and educational assemblies. “You can teach a child what a quarter note is and he will eventually get it,” Yeiser says. “Or, you can let him be a quarter note and he will get it instantly.”
